“ Great bar/club (depending on the room you decide to entertain yourself in) and in a prime spot located in DuPont. There are maybe over ten rooms with each of them having a distinct style - it goes from cool living room, to outside, to lounge to a club. Gotta check it out. ”
“ What a dope spot! We came on A Sunday during Presidents' Day weekend around 9p after dinner and it was long before the place started filling up. Coming from Miami, we don't see a place like this everyday. You walk up stairs to the first of several rooms with a bar, red walls, dim lights and a space filled with vintage sofas. Full bar and a list of about 10 or so cocktails-- I had the Ameri(something) I forget the name. Not bad, made with Makers. Id probably stick to wine next time but I was trying to hang with my whisky drinkers Pretty cool variety of music in the main room. Not stuff you'll want to get up and dance to but great chill vibe. Head outside if you want to bust a move or into the House Music area that opens at 11p. There's one more room that's super low key and feels like you've found a top secret Speakeasy. Located in what seems to be a pretty popular neighborhood so I definitely recommend making dinner reservations near by and heading to 18th st Lounge after for a full night! ”
“ I had a great time here last night after unexpectedly coming in to charge my phone. I really want to thank Yonas and the staff for helping me charge my phone so I could make it home otherwise I would have had to get real creative! This is a great swanky spot with great vibes, awesome music, and different levels that fit any mood. One floor had a DJ, and another floor had live music. What an excellent combo! I believe on Fridays and Saturdays, they also have jazz which I'd love to come and check out. It wasn't overly crowded but everyone was having a good time which is all that matters at the end of the night. What I appreciate about this spot is the versatility. I've been here for a friend's engagement happy hour and enjoyed the chill atmosphere. I look forward to experiencing 18th st. lounge on different nights of the week. ”
“ ESL is one of those go-to staple institutions in DC. Since I became of age and started dabbling in DC night life, ESL has always been a "good ol' reliable" destination for a good time among me and my friends. What I love most about ESL is what I first loved about it upon my first visit about a decade ago. It was the first, semi-hidden, not visibly large but surprisingly spacious venue, with lots of different rooms, and vibes. With the sprawl, I've always loved how they've managed to still make the space feel cozy, sexy and intimate with lots of dark corners for additional privacy and space. The music is always on point as well (duh - Thievery) and caters to such a range whether it's live reggae, house, old school hip-hop. The only time I typically avoid ESL is on the weekends, only because the crowd flow naturally swells in Dupont on the then and the patrons are typically a little more rowdy and the space, a little more packed. Otherwise, good vibes always. ”
“ Eighteenth Street Lounge, also known as ESL, is one of my favorite social spots in DC. There are a lot of great places to go out in Dupont Circle and ESL is definitely at the top of the list. Definitely a great date location or somewhere fun to enjoy an evening with friends. I've been here countless times but most recently I came here on a Thursday around 8:30 PM. ESL is a hidden gem as you might miss it since there isn't a sign above the door like other places in this area. When you find a door next to Public and Nando's, you'll know you're at the right location. The best thing that ESL offers is variety. This comes in the form of people, decor and music. Diverse crowds reflect the diversity that is common to the D.C. area. Each room is a different color and plays a different style of music. For example, there is a red room, gold room and blue/green room among others which each play different genres. You'll see a DJ set up on the outdoor rooftop patio and occasionally a live band upstairs. The sangria pitchers are priced very reasonably and you can easily get about 6 drinks out of each pitcher. ESL is one of the more interesting places to check out and be sure to stop by if you're in the area! ”
“ This place is interesting. I've been here twice... both on Fridays. The first time, I was really caught off guard and intrigued by all the old school decor! The couches and chairs look like they came from a few centuries ago. There are so many lounges and clubs where you have to pay to sit in areas like this. Depending on exactly where you are, the lighting may be a tad dim. The main bar and the couches and chairs nearby tend to be very crowded. The patio bar is perfect for when the weather is nice. The menu does not have food... however, I have heard that they occasionally have appetizers during happy hour. On the bright side, we were told we can bring in food from outside venues, so that takes care of that. They have a happy hour from 5:30 - 9 every day except Saturday! The specials are $4-$5 rails and sangrias, and $14 pitchers of sangria which are absolutely WONDERFUL! You can get a solid 4-5 glasses out of the pitcher, depending on how much you want to fill it up your glass. The music was very different from the first time... it went from jazz the first time to old school reggae and I was vibing really hard. The people make it loud sometimes, but I really like the place and hope to return again in the future. ”
“ I love the international feel of ESL. It's a great place to go right after lunch for happy hour or all night to party with your girlfriends. Or for you guys with your guy friends. I love all the couches and nooks and crannies where you can meet new people and spark up interesting conversations or by your neighbor a shot. I always have a great time when I'm here, which isn't enough. It's DC so the drink prices are OK. and they're pretty decent. I just love all the different places where I can dance because of course I love to dance. Whether you're visiting from out of town or a DMV resident this is definitely the place to go Thursday, Friday and Saturday. ”
